James Suckling (96)
Welcome to this sensual and mysterious heart of darkness. For the gamay grape these are really black berry aromas, and behind them is some impressive concentration. The ample palate is packed with fine tannins that give the wine a plush feel that’s rare in this region. Then comes terrific mineral freshness at the super-long finish. There the licorice, wet earth and wild herb character grows ever more intense as the wine sails off into the distance. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.
