The 2013 Ampersand is a serious second wine that could use a bit more time to come into its own. Today, the 2013 naturally shows less of the immediacy and radiance of the 2012 tasted alongside it. Dark stone fruits, leather, menthol and tobacco gradually open up in this super expressive wine from Levy & McClellan.

A very exceptional wine. Bob Levy and Martha McClellan are best known for their day jobs, he as Director of Winegrowing at Harlan Estate and Bond, and she as one of the most in-demand consultants in Napa Valley, but Levy and McClellan also make a small amount of wine from their property in Calistoga. Meticulous farming and small-lot vinification, always in 100% new French oak barriques, are the norm in handmade, artisan Cabernets. The wines are rich, lush expressions of this rugged hillside site.
